Gambling providers are increasingly using promotional games of chance

The New Zealand Gaming Authority believes that online casinos more and more people are using promotional games of chance to bring their casino or their products to the attention of players. The Ksa would therefore like to draw the attention of online providers of games of chance to the strict advertising rules that apply with regard to the law on games of chance.

A code of Conduct for promotional games of Chance has been drawn up in which rules of Conduct for promotional games of Chance have been laid down. But what exactly is a promotional game of chance? The Gaming Authority describes promotional games of chance as follows:

“the Giving, by way of promotion, of the opportunity to compete for prizes or prizes, the designation of the winners being made by any chance on which the participants in general cannot exercise a predominant influence.”

The Ksa now notes that online casinos are increasingly offering promotional games of chance, while the following is stated in the code of conduct:

“A provider offers a promotional game of chance at most once a year per product, service or organization. A promotional game of chance is temporary in nature and involves a maximum of twenty draws.”

The Ksa argued that these online casinos offer and use such promotional games of chance to attract or lure more players to their online casinos. When they do this, they should keep in mind that online casinos have very strict rules when it comes to the Gambling Act. These strict rules are there to protect consumers from the risks that online gambling bring it with you. Thus, players can acquire gambling addiction through such promotional activities. As a result, online casinos are no longer allowed to simply advertise in which they can reach a (vulnerable) young target group.

The Ksa is very active in the field of advertising. Together with Minister of legal protection, Franc Weerwind, a lot of rules have been implemented regarding promotional activities of online casinos. for example, such companies are no longer allowed to use BN ers in their commercials and it is prohibited from 2025 to promote games of chance in sports.
